Stonewall Jackson's Fence
General Martin McMahon and Staff
Grooms turns a picket fence, a familiar sight on Civil War battlefields, into a ladder to display several sketches from the conflict. “Stonewall” Jackson, whose troops at one point were called the Mud Fence Brigade, keeps company with radical abolitionist John Brown and several Union officers. Two of them, Thomas Neil and David Russell, did fight in Jackson’s last battle, Chancellorsville, where the Confederate general was accidentally shot in the arm by his own men and succumbed to complications from the injury.
