Erika Harrsch studies the migration patterns of monarch butterflies, which travel to and from Mexico and Canada yearly and offer parallels to the existential necessity of migration for people. She also uses the metaphor of butterflies to address themes such as gender politics, environmental issues, and the struggle for peace and independence.
