Artist Talk and Workshop with Catherine Latson
Clothing carries powerful narratives of identity, status, values, and more. When detached from the human body, clothing invites us to imagine new meanings and possibilities. This theme is explored in HRM’s exhibition No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor and in Catherine Latson’s Slippershell Gown, featured in It Takes 2: Unexpected Pairings.
In this illustrated talk and hands-on workshop, Latson will discuss her artistic process and how she uses organic, repurposed materials to challenge traditional notions of clothing. Then, create your own whimsical miniature garments from unexpected materials such as newspaper, feathers, fabric remnants, and found objects.
