Camille Eskell, whose mixed-media work is featured in the exhibition Cycles of Nature, examines cultural and family dynamics through the themes of vulnerability, rebirth, gender relationships, and social convention. Much like Frida Kahlo, Eskell often uses the damaged body as a metaphor to explore the themes of duality, transformation, and transcendence.

In this virtual talk, Eskell will discuss and demonstrate correlations and connections between her own torsos and cast pieces and Frida’s bodies, those of contemporary artists in The World of Frida, and also legendary photographers in Frida Kahlo in Context, like Florence Arquin, who in 1951 captured Frida Wearing Plaster Corset.
