Teens Seen: Art Showcase
The Hudson River Museum, in partnership with sixteen high schools throughout Westchester County, highlights the complexity and diversity of teen experiences through art.
Teen artists are powerful interpreters of their lives and the present moment. The Hudson River Museum, in partnership with sixteen high schools throughout Westchester County, highlights the complexity and diversity of teen experiences through art. Chosen by art teachers, the wide range of work across diverse media—from paintings and drawings to vector illustrations, lino prints, and cyanotypes—showcases the talent of more than 80 students, as well as the importance of high school art programs.
The artworks reveal the depth, tension, and nuance of young adulthood—emphasizing that teenage life is not “easy,” “dramatic,” or “just a phase”—it’s layered, contradictory, and deeply felt. Most teens are balancing different demands in their lives—whether from contemporary media, family, peers, or even self-imposed pressures—yet at the same time they also want to have fun. Together, these works offer an unfiltered view of adolescence today—inviting us to look more closely, listen more carefully, and take seriously the perspectives of the next generation of artists.
The Hudson River Museum has a strong commitment to engage and empower teens, including through our award-winning Junior Docent Program, which serves students (Grades 9–12) from public high schools throughout Yonkers. The Junior Docent Advisory Board, a group of thirteen highly-motivated young leaders, participated in the development of the exhibition and gallery activities. The Museum also recently launched an initiative to offer free admission to all Westchester County high school students on the weekends, made possible by a generous gift from the Anita K. Hersh Philanthropic Fund.
This exhibition is supported in part by a generous gift from the Anita K. Hersh Philanthropic Fund and 2025 Bridgemaker Prize awarded to the Hudson River Museum from the Art Bridges Foundation.
