4th Annual Yonkers Arts Weekend Hits the Streets May 6th–7th

YONKERS, NY, March 15, 2017 — Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the City will host its fourth annual Yonkers Arts Weekend (YAW), a celebration of the thriving and diverse arts community in the City of Yonkers, from Saturday, May 6–Sunday, May 7.

Artists who would like to showcase their work during Yonkers Arts Weekend can submit their information and samples of their work through an online submission form, at www.yonkersny.gov.

As part of this year’s Yonkers Arts Weekend, the City will continue the tradition of live mural paintings, this time along the South Broadway corridor of Yonkers, as well in IPark.  The weekend will also feature interactive art events for the public, street performers and pop-up galleries. There will be art venues throughout the downtown waterfront and Van der Donck Park, as well as at Untermyer Gardens, YoHo Artist Studios and the Hudson River Museum.

Performances, workshops, and pop-up galleries will run continuously throughout the weekend and are all FREE for children, teens, and adults.  New this year to Yonkers Arts Weekend, the Hudson River Museum is waiving all admission fees throughout the entire weekend.  The City of Yonkers will also provide free bus transportation that will shuttle visitors to each venue.

“The Arts Weekend is a great opportunity to experience the rich culture/creative community that exists here in Yonkers. Last year exhibitors from Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan joined the many local Arts Organizations.  It’s a clear message that downtown Yonkers has a thriving art scene and has become a destination for artists and art enthusiasts,” said Melissa Starke, Curator/Co-Founder, Urban Studio Unbound Gallery.

“We are proud to support the 4th Annual Yonkers Arts Weekend.  As a longstanding creative and cultural hub in the city, The Museum knows that the arts build strong communities, while inspiring innovation and understanding,” said Masha Turchinsky, Director, Hudson River Museum.

“This year marks our 14th annual Open Studio at YoHo and it is not to be missed! Each year we have opened our doors in hopes to inspire, share and connect with our community and the greater New York City metropolitan area. We are so excited that we can share our event once again with art lovers and enthusiasts alike and are very happy to be a part of this budding Yonkers arts scene and community,” said Lindsey Francis, YoHo artist & YoHo Open Studio Organizer.

“For a College that puts much stock in creativity, it is exciting to see the burgeoning of the arts in Yonkers with new galleries, arts programming for children, public art and the upcoming Yonkers Arts Weekend. Sarah Lawrence is proud to be a part of these developments,” said Judith Schwartzstein, Director of Public Affairs for Sarah Lawrence College.

Yonkers Arts Weekend is produced by the City of Yonkers, along with Urban Studio Unbound.
