Kenneth Smith Ramos, former Chief Negotiator for the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) for the Government of Mexico, and currently a partner at AGON, a Mexican Consulting firm, will speak on the economic, sociological, and political factors that drive immigration. He will discuss immigration both to and from the US, as well as the unique communities that have grown up around the border, and the interaction of global forces that determine individual choices to stay, to leave, and to return. Ramos will be joined by Enrique Perret, Director of the US-Mexico Foundation, who will focus on efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation between our two countries by creating new connections through humanitarian, cultural, economic, and academic initiatives. HRM Director and CEO Masha Turchinsky will moderate the conversation.

This program, offered in English and Spanish with simultaneous interpretation, is in conjunction with Border Cantos | Sonic Border: Richard Misrach | Guillermo Galindo, which is on view at the HRM through May 9, 2021.
