Zakanitchís Hanging Gardens series broke new ground for his ornamentation in gouache; at the same time it seems to come full circle to his Pattern and Decoration roots. He contains his flowers in grids and then opens a field to them for their repeating dancing forms. Of making patterns today, he says: ďIt isnít an issue that even enters my mind anymore. If I do or donít, itís all part of me. If I have to go back there, and someone says, ĎOh, itís all about pattern,í I say, ĎGood.í Thatís what itís about. ButÖ.Ē
