A Gilded Age Holiday: Live Opera in Glenview
Celebrate the season with our annual concert in Glenview, produced in partnership with the Yonkers Chaminade Club. Internationally acclaimed soprano Korliss Uecker, and baritone and pianist James Rensink will delight with a program of holiday favorites, popular period songs, and opera arias.
Classical selections by Brahms and others reflecting landscapes in the HRM collection will be followed by music of the Gilded Age like “In the Gloaming,” the hit song of 1877, (the year Glenview was built), and favorites by Gilbert and Sullivan and Victor Herbert. Then, enjoy a special program of works by female composers of the Gilded Age like Amy Beach, Cecile Chaminade, Ethel Smyth, and Augusta Holmés. These composers were among those who challenged societal norms to pursue and establish their careers in a public musical landscape where women were often marginalized.
Glenview appears in all three seasons of HBO’s award-winning The Gilded Age, which addresses the place of women in society and how they question and push boundaries. Learn more about the series.
