Delve into the works on view in African American Art in the 20th Century with Laura Vookles, Chair of the Curatorial Department, who oversaw the Museum’s installation of the exhibition on loan from the Smithsonian American Art Museum. These masterpieces by thirty-four African American artists span the decades that encompass such important historical events as the Harlem Renaissance, the Great Migration, World War II, and the civil rights movement.
