The Gilded Age comes alive at the HRM! It’s the last weekend to see costumes from HBO’s The Gilded Age, worn on-screen by Tony Award–winning actor Donna Murphy, on view in Glenview through Sunday, October 5. Glenview’s lavish interiors are featured in this popular Emmy Award–winning series as the home of Mrs. Astor. Come dressed up in your own period costume, and dress your own paper doll in Gilded Age fashion in a bilingual sketching workshop with Carolina Amarillo. Tours of Glenview will be offered at 5:30, 6, 6:30, 7, and 7:30pm.

Plus, experience a 90-minute production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore, their most popular operetta during the Gilded Age, performed by the Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Co. This comic opera, subtitled The Lass That Loved a Sailor, is a classic tale of forbidden love, particularly relevant to the gilded ages of the past and the present, as its humour focuses on love between members of different social strata, lampooning the British class system and poking good-natured fun at patriotism and the incompetence of unqualified people in power. The performance begins promptly at 6pm, with a 10-minute intermission. Enjoy the Museum exhibitions and a signature Gilded Age cocktail at the cash bar.
