Internationally acclaimed tap dancer and griot Omar Edwards and his band, the New York Jazz Gypsies, take audiences on a journey through sound from jazz to funk and back again! The pulsating rhythms created by Edwards’s tap shoes, paired with the rich instrumentation of the ensemble—featuring keyboards, drums, percussion, and an eight-time Grammy-nominated trumpet player—create an unparalleled experience. It is the cadence and rhythm of Omar’s feet, rather than his voice, that lead guests through a range of musical genres.

NAACP Image Award–winner Omar Edwards is a virtuoso tap dancer, musician, and choreographer whose foot music has taken him to more than twenty countries and onto American stages including on Broadway in Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk, the National Touring Company of Black and Blue, a seven year stint as the “Sandman,” in NBC’s Showtime at the Apollo, Live at the Hollywood Bowl with Alicia Keys, at the legendary Cotton Club & Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem, and a command performance at The White House before President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton.
