Free First Fridays: Thunderbird American Indian Dancers
The HRM sits on traditional lands of the Leni Lenape, the First Peoples to inhabit the Lower Hudson Valley. Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with Thunderbird American Indian Dancers, one of the best-known and the oldest resident Native American dance companies in New York. Performances will take place at 5:30 and 6:45pm; audience participation is encouraged.
The troupe—which was founded in 1963 by a group of ten Native American men and women who were descended from Mohawk, Hopi, Winnebago, and San Blas tribes—will perform a variety of dances from different tribes and delve into their origins, purpose, and regalia. They recognize and celebrate our region’s First People, who are integral to our understanding of local and national history, our relationship to the land, and responsibility for its stewardship for future generations.
In addition, get creative in a bilingual sketching workshop with Carolina Amarillo and enjoy our current exhibitions. Cash bar available.
