To the Junior Docent Class of 2022

Congratulations to each and every one of you for the remarkable accomplishment of graduating from the Hudson River Museum’s Junior Docent Program. You are about to embark on one of the greatest journeys of your young lives as you move onto college and transition into adulthood. It will be an experience filled with both excitement and responsibility.

During my time with you as the Manager, Youth and Family Programs, I’ve been consistently impressed by the strength of character you have all shown. It’s clear to me that your accomplishments reflect your maturity, professionalism, and the hard work you’ve put in during your high school years. Your acceptance into schools such as Barnard College, Binghamton University, Howard University, Seton Hall, University of Virginia, and NYU was no surprise given the strong work ethic you’ve all demonstrated. What was particularly gratifying, was the more than $880,000 you’ve collectively accumulated in accepted scholarships. Even now when I think of that amount, it seems unreal.

The tenacity and focus you’ve channeled into bettering yourselves during the uncertain times in which we live is truly admirable. It has been an honor and a privilege getting to know you all. I can’t wait until you return and share with me what you’ve learned and how you’ve grown since you graduated from the Junior Docent Program.

Sincerely,
Pedro Betanzos
Manager, Youth and Family Programs
