Yonkers-based spoken word poet Marcus John will perform with instrumentation and invite the audience to create their own word portraits celebrating prominent African Americans in US history. Followed by a signing of The Book of John: A collection of Poem, Prose and Rhyme by Marcus C. John.

Artist James McElhinney; art historian Katherine Manthorne; and Frances F. Dunwell, Hudson River Estuary Coordinator at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation; will gather to discuss the dynamic and interdependent underpinnings of our Hudson Valley landscape across time, space, and consciousness. Moderated by Laura Vookles, Chair of the HRM’s Curatorial Department.

Artist Vinnie Bagwell, who lives and works in Yonkers, recently won a high-profile commission from NYC’s Department of Cultural Affairs to design a new monument outside Central Park (at 5th Avenue at 103rd Street).
